With that charm comes a few quirks we want guests to be aware of: • The unit is accessed by stairs (both to the front door and up to the apartment). • Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. While the home is generally quiet, you may occasionally hear normal sounds from the downstairs unit. • Due to historic preservation guidelines, some original features—such as windows—cannot be replaced, and you may notice minor drafts at times. • The home has radiator heat (very cozy!) and window A/C units. Some guests find the A/C units louder than central air. • Original hardwood floors may creak or slope slightly due to age; they have been fully inspected and are completely solid. All that said, we believe these details are part of what makes your stay special—and we’re confident you’ll love the charm, comfort, and character of this classic Roanoke home. ________________________________________ Why Is Roanoke Called the Star City? Roanoke earned the nickname “Star City of the South” thanks to the iconic Mill Mountain Star. Built in 1949, the star was originally intended as a seasonal Christmas decoration, but it quickly became so popular that it has been illuminated every night ever since. Perched high atop Mill Mountain, the star is now one of Roanoke’s most recognizable symbols and a beloved local landmark—offering stunning views of the city below and a true sense of Roanoke’s character. We highly recommend making time to visit during your stay! It’s about a 10-minute drive from downtown or a 1.7-mile hike up the scenic Star Trail.
